Strategy
Hexadragon is a heavy dragon encounter where the obvious elemental choice matters: use Ice and never Fire, which is absorbed. Its physical attacks and breath can hit hard enough that staying at low HP for Limit Breaks is risky unless you already control the fight. Darkness or Slow can create safer windows, while Meltdown helps if a high-level version is taking too long to kill. If the party is traveling through an area with several dragon encounters, heal before engaging rather than assuming one strong Limit Break will always arrive before the Hexadragon's next attack.

Strategy
Imp is a small spellcaster whose main danger comes from being ignored while larger enemies occupy your attention. Holy works well and the Imp is vulnerable to several disabling statuses, so Silence can remove most of its purpose without spending much damage. Higher-level Imps carry better magic, which can make a controlled encounter useful for Draw stock, but do that only after the rest of the formation is safe. If you have no farming goal, eliminate Imps early so their status and offensive spells do not turn another enemy's physical pressure into a combined problem.

Strategy
Iron Giant has enough HP and defense to make weak physical attacks inefficient, and its heavy sword attacks can punish the same party while you grind it down. Start with Meltdown or another Vit0 source, then inflict Darkness to reduce the accuracy of its physical offense. Thunder is effective and Poison is useless. High-level Iron Giants can also use strong defensive support, so Dispel any major buffs rather than fighting through them. When encountered in the Deep Sea Research Center, treat each one as a mini-boss and keep HP high between encounters.

Strategy
Jelleye is a low-HP late-game enemy that rarely justifies complicated preparation. Its defenses are not built around one obvious elemental weakness, so a strong physical attack or non-elemental spell is usually more efficient than testing magic. Because it is susceptible to many common statuses, Sleep, Stop, or KO effects can also remove it while you concentrate on a more dangerous partner. The main tactical rule is not to let several minor enemies accumulate free turns in Ultimecia Castle; clear Jelleyes early unless you specifically need to Draw or collect something from them.

Lefty is one part of the Vysage formation and is much less threatening after the central Vysage has been removed. While the trio is intact, however, Lefty contributes physical grabs and helps enable combination attacks, so leaving every part alive gives the enemy side far more actions than necessary. Either defeat Vysage first or eliminate one hand immediately to break the full formation. If you are interested in rare drops from the hands, disable the group with status effects before farming; otherwise, clean up Lefty after the central threat is gone.

Strategy
Bad Breath makes Malboro a preparation check rather than a normal damage race. Junction protection against Confuse and Berserk first so at least one character remains controllable, then cover Sleep, Silence, or other statuses as space allows; a single protected Item user can rescue the rest of the party. Fire is effective and Demi works well against Malboro's large HP total, while Quistis's Degenerator can remove it outright in ordinary encounters. Malboro Tentacles are required for Doomtrain, so Mug or collect the necessary quantity before relying on instant-eject tactics.

Strategy
Mesmerize is a light combat threat but an excellent material enemy. Mesmerize Blades can be refined into Regen, which is a strong HP-junction spell well before the late game, so Mugging or collecting several drops can improve the party more than the EXP itself. The monster has no complicated attack cycle and is vulnerable to common statuses, making it safe to control while farming. Poison works if you want passive damage, but ordinary attacks are enough once you have the blades you need. Do not overlook the refinement value simply because the encounter itself is easy.

Ochu punishes careless magic use more than direct aggression. Non-fatal magical attacks can provoke Drink Magic, which steals a spell from a character's stock, and losing junctioned magic is far more annoying than the enemy's ordinary physical damage. Fire and Ice are good finishing elements, while Earth does nothing. Ochu Tentacles are important for Doomtrain and can be Mugged in useful quantities, so secure them before ending the fight if you still need the GF. Avoid weak spell spam; either disable the Ochu or hit hard enough that it does not get many chances to answer.

Strategy
Paratroopers are more disruptive in groups than their HP suggests because they can combine physical pressure with status magic such as Slow and Silence. Protecting a caster from Silence keeps your recovery options open, while a multi-target GF or attack can remove several before the status spam begins. Their broad status vulnerabilities also mean Siren or other disabling options can shut a formation down if your damage is low. In ordinary story encounters, prioritize the Paratroopers over weaker soldiers so the party is not slowed or silenced while another enemy does the real damage.

Strategy
Red Bat is one of the least threatening flying enemies in the game, so efficiency matters more than elaborate preparation. Wind deals extra damage and Earth-based attacks should be avoided against an airborne target. If you encounter several at once, a quick group attack prevents their repeated bites from becoming chip damage, but there is usually no reason to spend valuable magic on them. Their low HP also makes them convenient Card targets if you are minimizing EXP while still trying to earn early AP or collect cards.

Righty fills the same support role as Lefty in a Vysage formation, adding attacks and helping the central monster use its stronger group routines. Do not spread damage evenly across all three parts, because that leaves the entire enemy action set available for too long. Break the formation by removing Vysage or one hand, then finish the remaining targets in order. Righty can carry different items from Lefty at higher levels, so a farming setup may justify Mugging each target separately, but ordinary encounters are safest when the trio is dismantled quickly.

Strategy
Ruby Dragon is one of the game's genuinely dangerous random enemies, especially at high levels. Breath can devastate the entire party, so Shell and strong defensive junctions are more important than trying to absorb every Fire attack; avoid putting Fire on Elem-Atk because the dragon absorbs it. Ice and Holy are strong offensive choices, and Meltdown helps if its defenses slow your damage. In Laguna's scripted encounter, Sleep can create breathing room. High-level Ruby Dragons are also excellent sources of powerful magic, so disable them first if you intend to Draw rather than kill.
