Materia Properties

Materia Name & Description

The Materia's name and a brief summary of its function and the abilities it provides.

Price

The amount of Gil required to purchase the Materia when available from shops.

Command List

The battle commands granted by the Materia as it gains levels.

AP Growth

Materia gains AP after battles while equipped in a weapon or armor slot that allows growth. As AP accumulates, the Materia increases in level and unlocks additional abilities or strengthens existing effects. Equipment may provide Normal, Double, Triple, or No Growth. Once the final AP requirement is reached, the Materia is mastered.

Equipping Effect

Any changes to character attributes applied while the Materia is equipped.

Acquire

Locations, events, enemies, or other methods through which the Materia can be obtained.

Purchase

Shops or locations where the Materia can be purchased.

Equipping Effects

Max HP

Changes the character's maximum HP by the listed percentage. Higher maximum HP allows the character to withstand more damage before being KO'd.

Max MP

Changes the character's maximum MP by the listed percentage, affecting how much MP is available for casting magic and using other MP-consuming abilities.

Strength (STR)

Affects the character's Attack stat and the damage dealt by most physical attacks.

Vitality (VIT)

Affects the character's Defense stat and reduces damage received from physical attacks.

Magic (MAG)

Affects the power of offensive magic, restorative magic, and other abilities that use magical damage or healing formulas.

Spirit (SPR)

Affects the character's Magic Defense and reduces damage received from magical attacks. In the original PlayStation version, armor Magic Defense is bugged and its listed MDef value is not added during battle. Spirit itself still functions normally.

Dexterity (DEX)

Affects how quickly the character's ATB gauge fills. It also increases physical evasion and contributes to the accuracy of physical attacks.

Luck (LCK)

Affects critical-hit chance and the game's special lucky hit and lucky evade calculations.

Support Materia

Support Materia

Support Materia modify the behavior or effects of another compatible Materia. The Support Materia and the Materia it supports must be equipped in a pair of linked weapon or armor slots. The order of the two Materia does not matter. Support Materia only affect the Materia directly connected to them, and incompatible or unlinked combinations provide no support effect.

AP Growth

Both Materia in a linked pair gain AP independently while equipped, provided the equipment allows Materia growth. Increasing a Support Materia's level may strengthen its effect, improve its activation rate, or increase the number of times its effect can be used.

Multiple Support Effects

A single linked pair contains one Support Materia and one supported Materia. To apply several different Support Materia to the same spell or ability, additional copies of that Materia must normally be equipped in separate linked pairs.
