Strategy
This fixed Abadon is fought during the You're Not Alone sequence, with Steiner and Quina carrying the opening stretch before Zidane joins. Treat the first phase as survival rather than a damage race: keep both characters out of critical HP so High Wind cannot leave the group exposed when Zidane arrives. Wind is its only elemental weakness, and Bird Killer can add useful damage if already equipped, but there is no status shortcut here because this version has boss-style immunities. Virus Fly is absent from this fixed record, so the main pressure comes from High Wind and Thundaga rather than reward-denying Virus.

Strategy
Zidane begins this fixed encounter alone, then Freya and Amarant enter as the You're Not Alone sequence progresses. Do not burn resources trying to force the solo portion; keep Zidane stable until the reinforcements arrive, then use the extra turns to recover and finish the demon cleanly. Wind damage is especially effective, while its boss-style status immunity means Sleep, Slow, Petrify, and similar shortcuts are wasted attempts. Bio is the main attrition threat, so Antidotes or Antibody prevent poison damage from accumulating while the party is still assembling.

Strategy
Sandstorm is the move to respect: it can leave the whole party in poor shape at once, and Trouble Mucus then makes recovery messier by spreading damage through the afflicted character. Keep Annoyntments ready and restore the group immediately after Sandstorm rather than allowing Antlion another turn into weakened targets. The boss is vulnerable to Darkness, Silence, Sleep, and Slow, so this is one of FFIX's bosses that becomes dramatically easier when you use status magic instead of simply trading damage. Ice is its elemental weakness; avoid Water, which it absorbs. If Zidane is stealing the Gold Helm, disabling Antlion first makes the long steal attempt much safer.

Strategy
Oeilvert seals ordinary magic, so the preparation for Ark matters more than spell selection. Clear Headed prevents Propeller from Confusing the party, and Wind-resistant equipment reduces the danger after Whirlwind applies Float, since Float makes subsequent Wind damage hurt more. Photon drops one character to 1 HP, so answer it with a quick Hi-Potion or stronger recovery before Ark's multi-target moves land. Ark is vulnerable to Darkness, Silence, Sleep, and Slow, and the in-battle Tent trick is especially useful here: a Tent fully heals the boss but has a 50% chance to inflict Darkness, Silence, and Poison, allowing Zidane to disable much of the encounter even without normal spellcasting. Wind is Ark's weakness; Earth attacks do nothing.

Strategy
Armodullahan is part of the Fossil Roo chase and is not meant to be permanently defeated. The best strategy is to stay ahead of it on the field and avoid the battle entirely; knocking it down only buys time before the chase resumes. If contact is unavoidable, check levels first because LV5 Death instantly removes anyone whose level is divisible by 5, and ordinary Death can also cut a run short. Thunder and Holy are the useful elemental options, but do not linger for rewards: it drops nothing and the encounter's real objective is simply to get away and continue through the traps.

Baku is an early tutorial-style duel rather than a demanding boss. The useful decision is whether to spend extra turns stealing; once you have what you want, there is little reason to stretch the fight. Fire is effective if Vivi's magic is available in the encounter context, and Baku has no dangerous status gimmick to prepare around. Because supplies are still limited this early, use Potions before HP becomes critical rather than trying to squeeze out one more turn.

Strategy
The Alexandria Castle battle is Beatrix's final hostile encounter and still ends by script rather than a normal victory. Slow reduces her turn frequency, which matters because Shock can remove a character quickly and Climhazzard is the scripted finisher if the battle runs long enough. This is also the last chance to take her current steal set, so stabilize before committing Zidane to repeated Steal attempts. Do not build the party around Thunder Slash damage: Steiner's version of that ability is bugged in the original game and has notoriously poor accuracy, and Beatrix's use of the name does not create an exploitable weakness.

Beatrix (Burmecia)

The first true clash with Alexandria's general, whose polished armor and controlled stance immediately separate her from the monsters fought before her. The encounter establishes the intimidating pattern: she barely seems strained while the party is visibly outmatched.

The Burmecia duel is intentionally unwinnable in the normal sense: Beatrix ends the battle after enough turns or once the scripted threshold is reached. Use the window to steal the Mythril Sword and other useful gear if you want them, but do not exhaust the inventory trying to force a KO that the story will not allow. Shock and Stock Break can create sudden damage spikes, so keep the party above emergency HP and revive quickly if someone falls. Slow is one of the few practical ways to reduce how often she acts; the rest of the fight is about surviving long enough to collect anything you care about.

Beatrix (Cleyra)

The second duel with Alexandria's general, again marked by her spotless armor and unhurried swordplay in the middle of Cleyra's collapse. The repeated visual of Beatrix standing composed against a desperate party reinforces how untouchable she still seems.

Strategy
The second Beatrix fight at Cleyra follows the same scripted rule as Burmecia: survival and stealing are more important than trying to overpower her. Slow is useful because it buys more time between Shock, Thunder Slash, and Stock Break, while steady group healing prevents one strong sequence from collapsing the party. If Zidane is after her equipment, establish the party first and steal only when everyone is safe; the battle will eventually end by script regardless of how much damage remains.

Benero is one of the low-stat Tantalus opponents used during the opening production. The fight is designed to keep the scene moving, not to test party preparation, so avoid spending rare consumables or trying to engineer status setups. Clamp Pinch and Pyro are minor at this point; basic recovery is enough if the previous stage actions left HP low. The more important opening reward comes from performing the sword-fight sequence well, not from prolonging Benero's battle.

Black Waltz 1 shares the fight with Sealion, and the correct target order is the important mechanic. Remove Black Waltz 1 first; attacking Sealion while the Waltz is still active lets the mage support its companion and makes the battle longer than necessary. Vivi is the character you cannot afford to lose, so keep his HP comfortably above the damage range of the Waltz's spells. Once the mage is gone, the battle becomes the simpler Sealion phase. Fire and Ice both work well on the Waltz, and there is no useful status cheese worth delaying the kill for.

Black Waltz 2 is a spell-heavy duel, so reducing the number of casts matters more than raw defense. Wind is its weakness, and the fight is easier if you keep Dagger healthy while using the rest of the party to pressure the Waltz rather than allowing repeated elemental turns. It can drain MP with Osmose and occasionally waste turns on Hypnotize or Teleport, so take advantage of those openings for healing or stealing. Earth-based damage is useless because the Waltz is airborne and nullifies Earth.

The Cargo Ship version is fought with a party already shaped by the escape sequence, so speed matters. Black Waltz 3 cycles elemental magic and can hit multiple characters; keep everyone out of the range where a single Thundara or follow-up Hit can produce a KO. There is no elemental weakness to build around in this first record, so use the strongest non-Earth options available and take advantage of Trance if it triggers. If stealing, do it early rather than after the party has been worn down by repeated area magic.

The South Gate rematch is a tougher Black Waltz 3 record with a broader spell set. Body Temp is valuable if available because Freeze can otherwise turn the next damaging hit into an instant KO. This version can also use its cracked-state attack sequence, so recover before pushing into the final part of its HP rather than assuming the rematch will behave exactly like the Cargo Ship fight. The encounter is still short enough that conserving MP is less important than denying it extra casting turns.

Earth Guardian is much more vulnerable to control than its boss label suggests. Bad Breath can land Darkness, Mini, Slow, and other ailments; Mini is particularly strong because it cuts its magic and makes Double Slash negligible. Night is another excellent exploit if the party has Insomniac equipped, putting the Guardian to sleep while your own side stays awake. Auto-Reflect also neuters its Firaga, Blizzaga, and Thundaga because its script has no effective answer to a reflected party. Float avoids Earthquake, and Holy or Wind exploits the elemental weaknesses. Quina can also Eat the Guardian once it is below 25% HP to learn Earth Shake, ending the battle while collecting the Blue Magic.

Garland's most disruptive move is Stop, so Locomotion is the single best piece of preparation. Once Stop is blocked, his offense is mostly Flare, Psychokinesis, and Wave, which is much easier to recover from than losing turns entirely. Slow works and is worth maintaining because Garland has no elemental weakness to exploit. Shell helps against Flare, while Auto-Regen smooths out the repeated party damage from Wave. There is no special phase change or desperation mechanic, so the safest approach is to keep the party's ATB staggered: one character ready to heal, one handling utility, and the others using their best non-elemental skills.

Gizamaluke is dangerous mainly because every action has weight: Water can hit the group hard, Crash is a strong single-target strike, and Silent Voice punishes magic with Silence. The classic exploit is the Tent trick. Use a Tent on Gizamaluke at the start; it fully heals him, but each use has a 50% chance to inflict Darkness, Silence, and Poison. Silence removes Water and Darkness makes Crash far less reliable. Add Slow afterward and the fight becomes dramatically more manageable. Thunder is the practical elemental weakness. If Quina happens to be at exactly 1 HP, Limit Glove deals 9,999 fixed damage and can end the fight outright, which is one of the earliest major Blue Magic cheeses in the game.

Strategy
Haagen is another Tantalus stage opponent and uses little beyond Slash. Treat the encounter as part of the performance: preserve Potions for the escape sections and do not stall for nonexistent strategic rewards. There is no phase change, status puzzle, or elemental weakness to exploit. If HP is already low from the preceding sequence, heal once and finish rather than carrying unnecessary damage into the next scripted scene.

Strategy
Silence is the key to Hilgigars because it removes Curaga, preventing the boss from erasing a large chunk of your progress. Slow should follow immediately; its high-damage turns are much easier to manage when they arrive less often. Earthquake is the major group threat. Float can avoid it, but the status may expire during a long steal attempt, so refresh it deliberately instead of assuming one cast will last the whole battle. If you are trying for the rare Fairy Flute, disable Hilgigars first and let Zidane steal while Dagger and Eiko keep the party stable; otherwise there is no reason to extend the fight after Silence and Slow are in place.

King Leo is the theatrical role fought during Tantalus's opening play, not a true late-game boss despite the title. Preserve resources, keep the performers standing, and focus on the surrounding sword-fight performance if you are chasing the nobles' reward.

Strategy
Water protection dismantles most of Kraken's offense. Equipment that nullifies or absorbs Water turns Water-gun and Waterga into wasted turns, leaving Freeze, Ink, and the tentacle actions as the remaining concerns. Destroy the two tentacles early; each has 10,001 HP and a Thunder weakness, and removing them disables part of Kraken's attack set. Body Temp prevents Freeze from turning the next hit into an instant KO. Do not bring Return Magic into this fight if it will reflect Water back into Kraken, because the boss absorbs Water and can be healed by the reflected spell. Slow is the only worthwhile status on the main body, and Thunder is the clear elemental choice throughout.

Strategy
The left tentacle is one of Kraken's independent targets. It has 10,001 HP and is weak to Thunder, so removing it early is worthwhile because the tentacles enable part of the boss's offensive pattern. Treat it as a priority component rather than spreading damage across all three targets; once it is gone, the main Kraken fight becomes more predictable. Water damage is a poor choice in this encounter because Kraken's body absorbs it.

Strategy
Kuja's Pandemonium battle is almost entirely magical. Shell and elemental resistance therefore matter much more than defense against ordinary weapon damage, and Slow is the one status worth investing turns in. Avoid Reflect on the party and do not drain his MP to zero: either condition pushes his AI toward more frequent Flare Star use, which scales with character level and can punish a high-level group harder than expected. Demi cannot finish a character by itself, so prioritize healing after Flare Star or Thundaga rather than reacting to every fractional hit. When his HP is exhausted, Ultima is a scripted ending that drops the party to 1 HP; it is not a sign that the strategy failed.

Strategy
Lani's AI is unusually exploitable: she focuses almost all of her attention on Dagger, switching to Vivi if Dagger is KO'd. Keep Dagger Defending whenever she has no urgent job, and Lani will waste a large portion of the battle attacking the best-protected target. Darkness reduces the accuracy of her axe attacks and Slow is especially valuable because her Speed is very high. The stronger exploit is Quina's Magic Hammer: drain Lani's MP until her spells disappear, leaving her with low-accuracy weapon attacks. After the MP drain, Vanish on Dagger can make those attacks miss until the status wears off. Reflect on Dagger is another option against the spells, but it complicates healing and can bounce enough damage back to end the fight before Zidane finishes stealing.

Strategy
Lich has a surprisingly exploitable status profile for a Memoria Guardian. Slow reduces its turn rate, while Sleep can shut the fight down almost completely if you refresh it before attacking with anything that wakes the target. LV5 Death makes party level multiples of 5 dangerous, and ordinary Death/Doom add more pressure if the battle is allowed to run. Float avoids Earth Shake and Earthquake, though Lich can interact with Float through its own AI, so do not rely on it as the only defense. Holy and Wind are its weaknesses. If you want a low-risk win, keep it asleep and use magic or fixed-damage skills rather than repeatedly waking it.

Strategy
Maliris absorbs Fire, so remove Fire-elemental weapons and avoid reflected Firaga healing the boss. Ice is the clean weakness. Body Temp is valuable because Mustard Bomb inflicts Heat, and Reflect can be removed with Dispel before it interferes with spell targeting. Raining Swords is the move most likely to put the whole party into recovery mode, so do not let everyone spend their ATB bars at once when Maliris is near a turn. When the boss is defeated it has a final attack in the encounter script, so keep the party healthy even when its HP is almost gone rather than treating the last hit as immediately safe.

Strategy
Meltigemini is much easier if you attack its stats rather than just its HP. Mini works on the boss and is exceptionally strong here: it weakens its magic and makes the wing/body strikes largely harmless. Bad Breath can apply Mini along with Darkness and Slow in one cast, giving Quina an efficient way to cripple the encounter. Viral Smoke repeatedly inflicts Virus. Do not burn through Vaccines every time it is reapplied if the boss is still healthy; instead, cure Virus on surviving characters immediately before the finishing push so they receive the AP reward. Antibody blocks Venom and Poison, while Fire and Holy exploit its weaknesses. Keep one character free for status cleanup because a bad Viral Smoke into Venom sequence can otherwise waste several turns.

Strategy
Nova Dragon's dangerous moves are all multi-target: Twister and Aerial Slash are Wind-based, while Tidal Wave is Water-based. Equip resistance or absorption to those two elements before entering Memoria and much of the boss's damage disappears. Its Counter means low-value pokes are inefficient; favor fewer, higher-impact actions so you are not handing it extra responses. Ice and Wind are its weaknesses, but Wind protection on your own party is more important than trying to build around Wind offense. Keep one healer's ATB available after Twister, since Psychokinesis and Shockwave can punish a party that spends every turn immediately.

Plant Brain is the first boss where status preparation starts to matter. Pollen can put characters to Sleep, so Insomniac prevents the fight from stalling, and its tentacle attacks become dangerous mainly when several party members are already disabled. Fire is the weakness and Vivi can exploit it efficiently, but the encounter also has a scripted assist from Blank after the opening portion, so surviving the early turns is more important than burning through items for a fast kill. If Zidane is stealing, do it while the party is stable and finish once Blank has joined rather than letting repeated Pollen rolls create avoidable risk.

Garnet is trapped inside the Prison Cage, so her HP is effectively the battle timer: Absorb drains her, and if she is allowed to fall the game ends. Zidane begins with Trance available, making Free Energy the cleanest way to push the Cage down quickly. Steiner should prioritize restoring Garnet after Absorb rather than healing minor damage on himself or Zidane. Fire is the Cage's weakness, but the rescue takes priority over squeezing out extra damage. There is little value in extending this first version for steals, so end it as soon as Garnet is secure.

The second Prison Cage works similarly, but Vivi is the captive and actively helps by casting Fire at the Cage on his turns. Keep Vivi's HP high enough to survive repeated Absorb and use his free damage to shorten the rescue. Zidane no longer has the guaranteed opening Trance, so this version lasts longer and gives a practical window to steal the Leather Wrist and Broadsword if desired. Do not get greedy with Steal once Vivi is low; one missed recovery can turn an otherwise easy battle into a Game Over.

Ralvuimago alternates between an open state and a compact defensive state. When it becomes compact, its defense rises sharply and attacking into the shell is inefficient; use the downtime to heal, steal, or prepare the next turn instead of feeding it low-value hits. Ice is its weakness during the windows when you actually want to damage it. Earth Power is avoided with Float, and Ultra Sound Wave can create status trouble, so keeping the party stable during the closed phase makes the next opening much easier to exploit.

Ralvurahva is dangerous mostly because the chase gives you little time to rearrange the party before contact. Insomniac is excellent if available because Night otherwise puts everyone to Sleep at once; if you cannot block it, wake the healer first rather than spreading recovery around blindly. Ice is the elemental weakness. Devil's Kiss and String create additional disruption, but the boss eventually escapes as part of the sequence, so prioritize staying healthy and pushing the event forward rather than treating the encounter like a long resource battle.

The boss counters attacks, which makes small repeated hits inefficient; use higher-impact skills and heal before committing to another exchange. There is no elemental weakness to exploit and no major status gimmick, so the main advantage is tempo: avoid attacking from critical HP, because a Counter can arrive immediately after your action. Zidane's stronger thief skills or accumulated Thievery damage can shorten the duel substantially.

Strategy
Sealion is best handled only after Black Waltz 1 has been removed. Its jewel changes color as HP falls, and its offense escalates with the later phases, ending with the dangerous Tsunami when it is near defeat. Fire is the clear weakness; Ice is a bad choice because Sealion absorbs it, and Water does nothing. Keep Vivi healthy enough to continue casting and save a Potion for the red-jewel phase so Tsunami cannot finish him from a weakened state. If Zidane wants Sealion's steals, take them before driving its HP too low and triggering the most dangerous part of the fight.

Strategy
This is the final fixed monster in the You're Not Alone sequence. Zidane starts under heavy pressure, and Dagger's arrival is the important turning point, so preserve recovery options for the opening instead of trying to end the battle before the scripted support arrives. Ice is the clean weakness once the party has breathing room. Float also removes Earth Shake from the equation, which is particularly useful if Zidane enters the fight already worn down by the previous battles. The fixed version does not offer the same Blue Magic opportunity as the ordinary Shell Dragon, so there is no reason to prolong it.

Silver Dragon is a straightforward but hard-hitting aerial boss. Wind and Ice are its weaknesses, while Aerial Slash and Twister make Wind resistance on the party valuable at the same time. Because its strongest moves hit multiple characters, stagger actions so somebody can answer with group recovery instead of having all four ATB bars committed when Twister lands. Bird Killer and Dragon Killer are useful if already learned, but the bigger gain is elemental defense: cutting Wind damage gives you far more safe turns to finish the fight.

Strategy
Soulcage has one of the game's most useful boss exploits because it is Undead. A Life spell kills it outright; alternatively, a Phoenix Down reduces it to only a few HP and almost any follow-up finishes the battle. Magic Tag also exploits the same Undead property. Do not be baited by its listed Fire weakness. Hitting Soulcage with Fire massively increases its Speed and makes it spam Fire Blades across the party; an Ice spell can reset that powered-up state if you trigger it accidentally. Body Temp blocks Mustard Bomb's Heat, and levels divisible by 5 are vulnerable to LV5 Death. Darkness, Sleep, and Slow also work if you want time to steal before using the Undead shortcut.

The first Steiner battle is part of the Prima Vista escape sequence and is deliberately simple. Use it as a safe opportunity to steal any early equipment tied to the encounter, but stop stealing once the party's HP starts falling into Potion range. There is no status or elemental gimmick to solve; conserving the very limited opening inventory matters more than squeezing extra turns out of a scripted opponent.

Steiner (Prima Vista - Second Battle)

The same heavy armor and towering plume come charging back for another confrontation, with determination doing more work than grace. The repeated duel becomes part chase scene, part comedy routine.

The second Steiner record is another short scripted confrontation during the escape. The party is still working with early-game HP and a small item stock, so recover before HP becomes critical rather than assuming the next scene will heal everything. If there is an item you still want from Steiner, take the attempt while the fight is stable; otherwise advance the sequence without burning Tents, Ethers, or other resources that are much more useful after leaving Alexandria.

Steiner (Prima Vista - Third Battle)

The third early battle pushes the running joke to its peak, with the fully armored knight fighting onstage while a growing Bomb looms behind him. Absolute seriousness against such ridiculous circumstances is what makes the encounter memorable.

The third Steiner confrontation is governed by the Bomb growing in the background. The event is designed to end through that scripted escalation, so there is no payoff for elaborate boss setup. Keep the party alive, take any final steal attempts only if HP is safe, and let the scene advance. Trying to treat the background Bomb as an ordinary roaming Bomb misses the point of this specific battle record.

Strategy
Taharka's status vulnerability is the real weakness. Sleep and Slow make the normal fight easy, but Heat is the outright exploit: Quina's Mustard Bomb can inflict Heat on this boss, and when Taharka takes its next action the Heat status kills it instantly. If you prefer not to use the instant-kill route, Silence removes Blizzaga and lets you control the pace. Taharka alternates between open and curled states; the curled form has much higher defense, so use those turns for setup or healing and attack after it opens. Remember that Ipsen's Castle reverses weapon power, so weaker-numbered weapons can outperform the late-game gear you carried in.

This Thorn record belongs to the brief Mount Gulug event with Zorn and is not the full Alexandria twin battle. Its low stats reflect a scripted story beat, so preserve rare items and do not build a status plan around it. Clear the event efficiently; the meaningful encounter involving the twins' power-transfer mechanic is the earlier Alexandria Castle fight.

Strategy
Tiamat is one of the easiest Memoria Guardians to control because Sleep, Silence, and Slow all work. Sleep is the strongest option: once it lands, keep the dragon inactive and rely on magic or other attacks that do not wake it until the fight is essentially decided. Avoid leaving characters under Float while Tiamat is active. Float increases Wind damage taken, and Tiamat can answer a floating attacker with Snort, removing that character from battle. Ice is its elemental weakness, while Wind is a poor choice. Its Absorb Strength and Absorb Magic abilities steal stats, another reason to suppress its turns instead of letting the fight drag out.

Strategy
Valia Pira's difficulty is determined before the battle. Every bloodstone you collect and deactivate in the Desert Palace removes part of its advantages, so exploring the dungeon thoroughly is the strongest 'strategy' available. The boss also has an unusual alternate loss condition: reducing its MP to zero ends the fight. Quina's Magic Hammer and Vivi's Osmose can therefore win without depleting HP, which is especially useful if several bloodstones were missed. Sleep and Slow work, Reflect can be removed or bypassed with Reflect-Null/non-reflectable abilities, and Body Temp blanks Mustard Bomb and Freeze. With all bloodstones handled, the boss is much less threatening and Wind is the listed elemental weakness.

Zaghnol is the high-value target in the Festival of the Hunt, so the strategy is shaped by the event timer rather than long-term resource conservation. Water is its weakness and the quickest way to build damage during the short window. If Freya is competing with Zidane, decide whether you are trying to win the festival or deliberately engineer a particular prize before entering the fight; the scoring outcome can matter more than the boss reward itself. Do not spend festival time chasing unnecessary steals once the encounter is under control.

This Zorn record is the Mount Gulug counterpart to the low-stat Thorn event.
