Equipping Effects

Max HP

Changes the character's maximum HP by the listed percentage. Higher maximum HP allows the character to withstand more damage before being KO'd.

Max MP

Changes the character's maximum MP by the listed percentage, affecting how much MP is available for casting magic and using other MP-consuming abilities.

Strength (STR)

Affects the character's Attack stat and the damage dealt by most physical attacks.

Vitality (VIT)

Affects the character's Defense stat and reduces damage received from physical attacks.

Magic (MAG)

Affects the power of offensive magic, restorative magic, and other abilities that use magical damage or healing formulas.

Spirit (SPR)

Affects the character's Magic Defense and reduces damage received from magical attacks. In the original PlayStation version, armor Magic Defense is bugged and its listed MDef value is not added during battle. Spirit itself still functions normally.

Dexterity (DEX)

Affects how quickly the character's ATB gauge fills. It also increases physical evasion and contributes to the accuracy of physical attacks.

Luck (LCK)

Affects critical-hit chance and the game's special lucky hit and lucky evade calculations.
